The goal and purpose of Na Hui Ikaika is the pursuit of the following principles:
Commitment: Na Hui Ikaika wants to inspire pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, bolster their physical capabilities, and instill a sense of hope in the future.
Responsibility: The focus of Na Hui Ikaika is to empower young ladies in establishing goals both physically & mentally, show the importance of following through on commitments, and to teach the strength in being a part of a team.
Possibility: Na Hui Ikaika wants to expand the perspective of young women to make them aware of life's possibilities and to see the potential they have in life.
Support: An individual is dramatically influenced by their support system. Na Hui Ikaika wants to surround young women in a caring, strong, empowering learning environment that will give them the skills to be the best version of themselves.
This purpose will be implemented through regular weekly meetings with individual mentors, as well as Na Hui Ikaika’s entire team. This team is not only comprised of young ladies, but the adult female mentors/leaders will be a racing team, as well, representing Na Hui Ikiaka. This adult racing team will lead by example, individually and as a team. Na Hui Ikaika will provide weekly trainings, technique workshops, guest speakers, cultural seminars, and community outreach. During school breaks, the Na Hui Ikaika young ladies will have the opportunities to participate in week long camps that will happen at local beaches in which they will have guest speakers, cultural parishioners, and experienced paddlers bolster their knowledge and strength through outrigger canoe paddling.
This a year commitment on behalf of the young ladies and adult female mentors. Within this year, the goal is to become strong females on and off the water. Na Hui Ikaika will partake in distance races locally, statewide, and off island. The goal will be measurable with improved performance and attitude of everyone on the team.
Overall, our goal at Na Hui Ikaika is to empower young ladies through outrigger canoe paddling and mentorship to be the best version of themselves, both physically and mentally with the hope it will transcend through their entire adult life and into society.
